Yes, finally after a long anticipated wait the Peruvian Government has finally put Machu Picchu tickets on sale for 2014 – nothing like leaving it until the last minute eh! So if you are planning a trip to Machu Picchu for 2014, now is the time to go ahead and secure your all-important tickets.
Remember that Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu tickets are limited by number to just 400 tickets per day, so be sure to book these ticket types 2-3 months in advance, longer during festival times like Inti Raymi (June 24), Christmas, New Year and during religious festival dates when Peruvians will also descend on Machu Picchu.
A Note about January Ticket Availability
There were a lot of travel agents and ticket websites waiting for 2014 Machu Picchu tickets to go on sale. So as you can imagine, as soon as the tickets went on sale, there was a huge rush for tickets. As I write this article, I can see that Machu Picchu + Huayna Picchu tickets for the first 3 days of January have already sold out. So if you are planning on travelling in January, securing your tickets as soon as possible is vitally important.
We were told by the Ministry of Culture here in Cusco that they were waiting on new tax increases from the Peruvian Government, so they could put the prices up. However, strangely, the tickets have actually gone down in price by just a couple of Soles each (less than a 1 US Dollar). Our tariffs for 2014 will reflect this.
